Going Greek!


The only thing on my mind over the past few days has been food.. Greek food.. garlic olive oil.. tiramisu.. food!

Cooking for friends has always been a pleasure and cooking for friends who appreciate good food is the ultimate dream for a foodie-cook. This time around, the cuisine of choice was Greek - perhaps my favourite food in the world, after my mum's cooking.

I always knew what my starter dip and desserts were going to be but hit a wall when it came to the things in between. After two days of giving this intense thought, I realised I had always known the answer - Go Greek of course!

And so, after hours of research, the menu evolved and the starters and main course emerged.

Starters - 

Homemade felafel topped with raw veggies and hummus
Homemade hummus with pita bread
Aubergine sticks
Tzatziki with veg sticks
Fish fry
Spicy grape chicken







We had assumed that the starters would last us through most of the evening owing to their sheer numbers and quantity. Our friends arrived at 10:45pm and much to our amazement, their plates were clean and most starters devoured (and relished) by 11:10pm. There just cannot be a bigger compliment for a cook. Ever.

The main course, which was finally had at 5am, consisted of -

Oregano chicken - falling off the bones soft - with boiled white rice
Mushroom stefado - super rich in flavours - on top of rice




The highlight of the meal was the dessert. Much to the dismay of our friends, they were way too full by the time it came to the tiramisu but then again, there's always space for some rum and coffee liquor topped dessert!






With all the singing provided by the husband and the laughs that close friends bring, this was one helluva evening (night.. early morning?!)
